Catcher training made with you in mind

Future 2026 Training Dates: Jan. 11,  Feb. 1

As former catchers and current college coaches, we know how rare true development is. Too many catchers pay top dollar for “experts” and see little growth, and most team practices barely scratch the surface. Train with us consistently for 7–10 months and experience real transformation: a sharpened mental game, elite physical skills, and the confidence to become a difference-maker your future self will be proud of.

The baseball landscape provides catchers with dozens and dozens of games every few months, but it does very little to prepare and build the skills needed for catchers to compete and show continued growth at the higher levels.

NLCA will train the many unique skills that make catching the most difficult position to perform on the diamond.  Our objectives and drills are challenging to each player’s ability level starting with the fundamentals, then progressing through advanced skills as your player’s consistency increases.

Our on-field training events average between 120 minutes to 140 minutes pending the age group and training event with costs ranging at approximately $55 per hour for training camps.  We provide exceptional value as we layer our training with an optional professional video analysis and Pop-time progression charts (90′ bases only) to objectively track catcher progress for throwing and blocking skills.

***If you are not within distance of our in-person trainings please check out our online catching curriculum by following this link.  We have uploaded all of our best training practices to advance your development.  The value is unmatched and the short-form video curriculum is accessible right here, all in one place via your “Catching Vault Account.”

Skills

All aspects of throwing technique ( including picks from knees), Stance/Receiving (all pitches bordering the strike zone), Block and Recover (lateral blocks), Pop-up priority, all Bunt plays, and the most exciting play in baseball… Tag Plays at home plate (footwork, glove work, communication, and anticipating).

We do not limit our instruction to just the physical skills of catchers we will also discuss leadership and other nuances to the position that allows our catchers to grow in their mental game along with their leadership and physical skills.  While we stress the kinesthetic feel of new skills through repetition, we teach anticipation and proper application and at times compete to add stress to maximize performance.

All skills are broken down and instructed on with detail and focus using a whole-part-whole approach to teaching.  (see our YouTube page to view our camp summary for an overview of our sessions) Each drill/repetition has a purpose that will become a habit, which will lead to consistent action for that particular skill.

Our catching sessions are level and age-appropriate and we work towards teaching and challenging each catcher to his ability and skill.  This is made possible due to our small catcher-to-instructor ratio (appr. 4 to 1).  We feel that our catchers learn best in a smaller group setting with hands-on instruction that allows for maximum repetitions.

We pride ourselves in being accessible to catchers, parents, and coaches to answer questions and to give clarity to anything pertaining to our partnership.

The bottom line is… if you LOVE Catching, you’ll LOVE our training camps.
